Since its origins, in addition to the widely known aquariums, the San Sebastian Aquarium has housed an oceanographic museum with valuable heritage elements that, through the different areas of the museum, help to explain and contextualise the rich maritime and marine history of the Basque Country and San Sebastian, their fishing and corsair, the boats used for the great deeds of their sailors, …
In this space, you’ll find areas dedicated to various topics related to our past and present: maritime commerce, fishing, Basque whalers, etc… and also an area that explains the creation of the Oceanographic Society of Gipuzkoa, which was one of the first organizations dedicated to the study and dissemination of oceanographic content in Spain.
